Countering Criticism of the Warren Report

CIA Document 1035/960

This document is the origin of the term 'Conspiracy Theory'. It shows how the CIA used deceit to put investigative reporters off the truth of the JFK Assassination.

President JF Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas on 22nd November 1963. The official line was that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. The new president, Lyndon Johnson, set up the Warren Commission to investigate the assassination. Ten months later it reported that it found 'no conspiracy, domestic or foreign.'

However, as stated in the CIA document 1035/960 paragraph 1: 'various writers have now had time to scan the Commission's published report and documents for new pretexts for questioning, and there has been a new wave of books and articles criticizing the Commission's findings. In most cases, the critics have speculated as to the existence of some kind of conspiracy.'

Paragraphs 3 (a) and (b) discuss how to use 'friendly elite contacts (especially politicians and editors) ... to suggest amongst other means that 'parts of the conspiracy talk appear to be deliberately generated by Communist propagandists' and to 'employ propaganda assets to answer and refute the attacks of the critics'. These methods are used in mainstream media today.
