Nature Spirits

Nature spirits, or elemental beings are categorised depending on which of the four elements they represent: earth, air, fire and water.
There are four elements: earth, air, fire and water. Different elementals are associated with each different element: gnomes with the earth, sylphs with air, salamanders with fire, and undines with water. Different cultures call them different names: elves, dwarves, goblins, fairies, trolls etc.
Elementals:
In Answering the Call of the Elementals, Thomas Mayer says we don't create our own feelings but feel the feelings of the elementals - like a radio receiver. Thus, the feeling of a beautiful view, comes from the elemental that lives there. She has been there a very long time. 'Mother Earth' is a clue that God may not be male.
It is interesting that Siddha, India's 5,000 year-old traditional medicine system, uses the three doshas of: vata, pitta and kappa to describe imbalances between the five elements: vata arises between ether and air, kappa between earth and water, and pitta between fire and water.
Sometimes we may see nature spirits as orbs or balls of light.
Elemental | Description |
---|---|
Earth | Earth spirits are gnomes like; and Brownies, dryads, elves, pans, pygmies, sylvestres and satyrs. |
Air | Air spirits are sylphs. They usually have wings and are between a fairy and an angel. |
Fire | Fire spirits are salamanders - we need them even to light a match. No salamander = no fire. |
Water | Water spirits are undines - like Mermaids, sea maids. Water is sacred and many springs are famous for their healing powers. This is probably because they are structured water - water that is conscious and alive. There are several other names for structured water - see below. |
