Self-Sabotage

Self-sabotage occurs when our unconscious learned behaviours take over and stop us achieving our goals.
The causes may be either recent 'programming', childhood trauma of our own or other behaviours passed down epigenetically from previous generations.
The purpose of our subconscious is survival. It wants to keep us safe and the best way to do this is to copy the herd. Our subconscious is a throwback to our reptilian past and thinks very quickly, far faster than we can consciously.
It notices and stores 11 million things a second, while we only consciously notice 140 things a second. As it scans, it constantly updates lists of safe and safest cards. It looks for repetition and patterns as the more something is seen the safer it is.
Governments and advertisers know this. This is why the media is so powerful and repeats adverts and slogans. It is also why there are ‘programmes’ on tv and the radio. Films are even more effective.
The subconscious has no concept of time, past or future, and has no logic. It believes everything it sees and catalogues it. In Steve Peter’s Chimp Paradox (which has sold over a million copies), he calls the subconscious the ‘chimp’. It was the first self-help book I read.
The subconscious acts quickly and powerfully. It can make you jump out of the way of a car without first thinking whether you’ve got the best shoes on - and worry about the near miss afterwards.
If you’re not achieving your personal goals your ‘programming’ or subconscious is stopping you.
There are many ways to reprogram the subconscious.
