Seeds

All plant life on earth grows from seed. Seeds are the essence of life. No seeds = no food.

In The Seeds of Vandana Shiva, Vandana, a Gandhian eco-activist and agro-ecologist, shows how the strong-willed daughter of a Himalayan forest conservator became Monsanto’s most powerful opponent.

Traditionally, small farmers kept their own seeds that had adapted to local conditions over centuries. Monsanto, and other Big Ag companies, modify seeds genetically to resist diseases, but this one GMO seed is unsuitable for all climates and locations. GMO seeds can also be infertile, so the farmer can’t save their own seed but has to buy new seeds each year.

GMO foods also have an impact on health: increase in allergies, cancers, and many other diseases. In Toxic Legacy Stephanie Seneff, a Senior Research Scientist at MIT, shows how glyphosate, the active ingredient of Roundup, is poisoning our health and soil. The book’s subtitle is - How the Weedkiller Glyphosate is Destroying Our Health and the Environment.
