Leaps of Consciousness

Flora

What if plants didn't grow from the roots up?

Consider the volume and weight of wood in a large oak tree. Imagine how many 4x4 vehicles all the wood would occupy.

If it grew out of the ground, where is the hole all this wood came from? Stand in a dense forest, and it’s even more obvious: plants and trees materialise out of the ether. They are cosmic beings in a material form and intimately connected to the planets.

There are two fascinating books about this:

  • Rudolf Hauschka’s The Nature of Substance. He shows how an open-minded study, based on qualitative observation and quantitative research, can overcome science’s limited materialist view, and points to new research that indicates the primal nature of spirit.

  • Ernst Kranich’s Planetary Influences upon Plants describes the growth patterns, leaf placements, and flower forms of different plant families and how they are clearly connected to the rhythmic activity of specific planets. The book contains many drawings showing the connections between the planets’ orbital paths and the shapes found in particular plants. It inspired Rudolf Steiner's Biodynamic farming.
