Jung holds there are four male archetypes: Lover, Hero, Magician, and Ruler.
Archetypes are universal symbolic patterns of behaviour - so we all share them.
The Sage personifies Wisdom.
The main archetypes are:
The persona - how we present ourselves to the world.
The shadow - unconscious repressed ideas, feelings, desires and failures, and sex drive. Jung held some people deny their own shadow and project it onto others.
Anima or animus - the anima is the female aspect in the male, and the animus is the male aspect in the female.
The Self - our goal: unifying the conscious and unconscious through individuation.
Below this, there are 12 Jungian archetypes.
Here’s a fun way to find out your main of the 12 archetypes: look at each’s shadow (in brackets) and feel the strongest.
