Panpsychism
Panpsychism holds that there is a degree of consciousness in everything, from animals to plants, planets and galaxies, and even rocks, sand, electrons, and photons.
The famous split beam experiment suggests that this is indeed the case. It showed that photons know they are being observed and change their behaviour accordingly.
Panpsychists maintain that consciousness is prime - it is the fundamental base of the cosmos and does not magically grow out of our brains, as some believe.
